There are common mistakes that many businesses are making on Instagram, so make sure you’re not one who’s making them! Let’s take a look at a few mistakes and how to fix them.
Hashtags in your Bio
Hashtags have the power to help your business on Instagram, but they can also hurt it. You can now add hashtags into your profile, but be careful how you use them. Adding a hashtag into your bio won’t put you any higher on a bio search, so don’t plan on that helping you stand out.
DON’T:
Don’t use hashtags that send you to someone else’s content.
Don’t put too many hashtags in your bio or it will look like one big mess.
DO:
Do use hashtags that compliment your business brand.
Do put one or two hashtags, max on your bio.
Growth Over Engagement
Unfortunately, many people on Instagram focus on growth over engagement. This is a big mistake. The answer isn’t how many followers you have, but how much your followers engage with your content.
DON’T:
Don’t ignore comments.
Don’t be a passive IG’er.
DO:
Do have a conversation with your followers and answer EVERY comment.
Do be an active IG’er. People will engage more with you when you engage with them.
Random Posts
Many times, people will post random posts that just don’t align with their IG profile. Your content should all be planned in advance and should be part of your overall Instagram strategy.
DON’T:
Don’t simply post a picture, just because you like it.
Don’t guess at what to post.
DO:
Do post pictures that align with the overall aesthetic of your brand strategy.
Do have a plan on what to post.
If you are guilty of any of the DONT’S on our list, there’s hope! Focus on the DO’S and don’t look back!
